Instead, my suggestion is to use your Reinforcements in place of Militia. With the exception of the Holy Order, they don't have enough defense or hit points to stand up to the stronger enemies, either. There's only three of them, so they can't really stand up to a wave of weak enemies. These towers can be somewhat handy in the early game, but the soldiers they train have a lot of disadvantages. You'll notice that I haven't even said a single thing about Militia towers. They're also pretty good at taking down any heavily injured weak enemies that your Tesla towers didn't have time to kill. The poison slowly drains even the strongest of enemies, while the thorns ability gives your other towers more time to deal damage. Rangers fire extremely fast, but they can also poison and hold enemies with their special abilities. The other is the Ranger upgrade to the Archer tower. If you grab the Summon Elemental ability, they can even slow down stronger enemies while your damage-dealing towers plink away at them. If you pair this with your Musketeers and Arcane towers, you can bring down even heavily armored enemies easily. One is the Sorcerer upgrade to the Mage tower, which reduces enemy armor every time it hits. There are a couple of good support towers that mix well wherever you can put them in your defensive arrangement. Kingdom Rush Tip # 8: Support & Meat Shields The Arcane tower's Teleport ability can also give you some additional time to deal with particularly tricky enemies that are threatening to overwhelm you. If you place them at the start, they'll vaporize a few of the weak enemies, but let the strong ones pass right by. You should place these towers after the Bombards, since you want them to focus on just the strong enemies. Both have abilities that can take down an enemy in a single hit - the Death Ray and the Sniper Shot, respectively. These guys may take some damage from your Tesla towers, but chances are they're still going to need a strong finishing blow.įor this purpose there are two good Kingdom Rush towers - the Arcane upgrade to the Mage tower, and the Musketeer upgrade to the Archer tower. Once you've thinned out the weaker enemies, it's time to focus on the harder, tougher baddies. Kingdom Rush Tip # 9: Taking On the Toughies When placing a Bombard, try to find a location that has many locations after it (for other towers, which will take down stronger enemies) but is also relatively centrally located, so that most of your enemies will pass by it. Sometimes I'll start the first round of a level with only a Tesla tower, and nothing else! In the later levels, typically the Bombard tower is my first to deploy, and my first to be upgraded. Later levels have swarms of these flying enemies, and you'll be at an advantage if you've got a Tesla available. It's also the best Bombard tower upgrade at taking down flying enemies like Gargoyles. With the Overcharge ability at max, it can easily take down any number of weaker enemies. My go-to for this is the Bombard tower, specifically the Tesla x104 variant. Thus, it pays to invest in towers early along the route that can thin these hordes out. Many waves are positively full to the brim with weak enemies that go down without much trouble, but can easily bypass your soliders and slow-firing defenses. Kingdom Rush Tip # 10: Survival of the Fittest With that in mind, I've collected my top tips - with these tips for Kingdom Rush, you should find it easy to get 3 stars on every level. It's a crazy fun game, but it can be frustrating if you can't quite understand how to play. In a context where courtship is inherently an unequal and adversarial dynamic, setting up your characters to be in conflict can be extremely simple. A woman who-for any number of reasons-feels disinclined for marriage in general, or for marriage to the other protagonist in particular, may view the courtship itself as a hostile act. In a historic context, the initial conflict sometimes stems from the coercive dynamic of courtship and marriage itself. Arousal, in turn, when embraced, forces a reanalysis of the underlying emotional state. Whether the conflict is a generic “war between the sexes” where personal desires are in conflict, or whether there’s an external clash that gets personalized, the underlying theme tends to be that the heightened emotions of conflict is re-interpreted by the body as arousal. In contrast, a mixed-gender “enemies to lovers” trope often tends to lean into seeing romance as conflict. And once a friendship is established as existing, there needs to be an ongoing barrier that initially prevents the characters from recognizing (or at least acknowledging) the romantic potential. (Contemporary settings are more open to the idea, of course.) So for a historic romance, there can be a significant hurdle to arranging for your protagonists to be non-romantic friends in the first place, if you have a male-female couple. That counterforce could be a lack of physical attraction it could be a significant social taboo such as a pseudo-sibiling relationship between two people who have interacted closely since childhood it could be a matter of social classification, where the other person has been tagged as “inappropriate for romance” for any number of reasons.Īs has been noted in previous installments of this series, there have been large swathes of cultural history in which non-sexual friendship between men and women was considered implausible as a concept, or at least only possible within very narrow contexts. Men and women in close social proximity-so the model goes-will invariably find desire entering the picture unless there’s an overwhelming counterforce. “Friends to lovers” plots for male-female couples lean heavily on the cultural expectations and stereotypes around the imperatives of sexual desire. It helps to begin by dissecting how the “friends to lovers” and “enemies to lovers” tropes work for mixed-gender couples, and how they work differently in historic settings than in contemporary stories. However for this particular set of tropes, I’m going to be discussing general dynamics more that specific historic examples. If you’re writing your story in a significantly different cultural setting, you should research what the differences might be with regard to expectations for friendship and for social conflict between women. Historic romance readers love their tropes, and in this series of podcasts, we look at how some of the more popular tropes function for female couples in historic settings-how they change the dynamics of the plot due to social expectations, prejudices, or assumptions around gender relations that are specific to the setting.Īs usual, my examples tend to be drawn from Western culture. In the context of historic romance novels, popular tropes include ones that describe attributes of the romantic couple, the context in which they meet, the barriers keeping them apart, or the mechanism by which they connect romantically. The trope could be a character type, or a situation, or even a plot-sequence or mini-script. And in the context of romance fiction, it has come to mean any of a variety of fixed structures or scenarios involving the romantic couple that is used regularly enough that it has come to carry a weight of expectation and meaning, and that connects the story in the reader’s mind to other stories that have used the same trope. To review briefly (because you never know who might have just stumbled on this concept for the first time), a trope is simply a recurring, conventional literary device or motif. But it seems to me that both tropes can be explored in a more interesting fashion by contrasting them with each other, while simultaneously contrasting them with how the tropes work in mixed-gender couples. It might seem a bit odd, when doing these shows on tropes in sapphic historic romance, to combine the “friends to lovers” and “enemies to lovers” tropes into a single discussion. Lesbian Historic Motif Podcast - Episode 252 – Our F/Favorite Tropes Part 6: Friends or Enemies to Lovers - transcript I went here for dinner on my most recent January trip home to Chicago with my cousin Liz and it was the spot to be. Check out my Top 10 West Loop Restaurants here. I’m usually a chocolate girl, but, if I had to choose, the Banana dessert was my favorite! BellemoreĪnother recently opened Chicago hotspot is Bellemore in the West Loop. The incredible dessert spread the team surprised us with! I’m dying to come back here for cocktails and a summer visit to the rooftop pool and bar. The beautiful rooftop bar was just as incredible as the first-floor restaurant. One bite turned into three or four – it was that good! I ordered an omelet, but, of course, had to try this. This F rench toast with caramelized Bananas and nuts was over the top. The food was great and so was the bustling vibe. We sat at a booth facing outside and took in the great, bright light and the lively front half of this restaurant. Not only because of their beautiful design – a bright, modern, stunning setting – but, also, because of their food and the great guest experience. Somerset, located in Chicago’s NEW and beautiful Viceroy Hotel, is spectacular. We went out Friday night to Bellemore, one of the Hottest Chicago Restaurants on this list (also from the same team as Somerset, The Boka Group), and then a friend had recommended Somerset! So we brunched here on Saturday. Lettuce Entertain You has done it again with their newest opening, Aba located in the West Loop. Also, for those new to Chicago, don’t forget a coat, hat, and gloves as it can get very chilly! Hottest Chicago Restaurants ABA However, here is a list of some of the Hottest Chicago Restaurants I’ve enjoyed and highly recommend. So, if you’re wondering why this list isn’t as long as my typical Top 10 List, it’s because I don’t have as much time here to visit all the new hot spots. Although I am back in Chicago 6-8 times a year, I usually spend most of that time with family in the suburbs or at our Lake House in the Indiana Dunes. Before you start reading my list of Hottest Chicago Restaurants, I want to remind you that I am originally from Chicago – I grew up in Winnetka, a Northern Suburb. It successfully reached orbit on its maiden launch on June 4, 2010, carrying a dummy payload qualification unit. The first Falcon 9 rocket arrived at SLC-40 in late 2008, and was first erected on January 10, 2009. Renovations included installation of new liquid oxygen and kerosene tanks and construction of a hangar for rocket and payload preparation. During April 2008, construction started on the ground facilities necessary to support the launch of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. In 2007, the US Air Force leased Cape Canaveral Space Launch Complex 40 to SpaceX to launch the Falcon 9 rocket. Cape Canaveral Space Force Station įalcon 9, Flight 3, above SpaceX Cape Canaveral launch complex, May 2012 SpaceX has indicated that they see a niche for each of the four orbital facilities currently in use or under construction, and that they have sufficient launch business to fill each pad, particularly so by the end of the decade if SpaceX business remains strong. A high-altitude suborbital test facility was under construction in New Mexico, but was abandoned following the switch to flight tests on commercial missions. In addition, SpaceX uses a suborbital test facility, the SpaceX Rocket Development and Test Facility in McGregor, Texas. A new building nearby is also planned, and these facilities would be used to refurbish rockets. In 2016, SpaceX signed a five-year lease to use a 53,000 square foot (4,900 m 2) former Spacehab building at Port Canaveral. SpaceX have indicated that, depending on market demand, they may actually need another commercial launch site in addition to the Texas location. ĬOO Gwynne Shotwell stated in 2014 that "we are expanding in all of our locations" and "you will end up seeing a lot of SpaceX launch sites in order to meet the future demand that we anticipate." As of June 2016, SpaceX discussed preliminary plans to launch an average of 90 rockets per year after 2019. SpaceX believes that they can optimize their launch operations, and reduce launch costs, by dividing their launch missions amongst these four launch facilities: LC-39A for NASA launches, SLC-40 for United States Space Force national security launches, SLC-4E for polar launches, and South Texas Launch Site for commercial launches. Space Launch Complex 40 was damaged in the AMOS-6 accident in September 2016 and repair work was completed by December 2017. There are two conferences that haven’t negotiated their media rights yet-that’s us and the Big 12. What gives you so much optimism that the remaining schools can still field a powerful conference? We’ve moved up our negotiating window with ESPN and Fox, and we’re going to continue down that path.Ī lot of people believe losing USC and UCLA critically weakens the Pac-12. We put that question and others to George as he prepared for the Buffs’ season opener against (future Big 12 brethren?) TCU on Friday at Folsom Field. And that haul would only have to be split between 10 schools, not 12. The conference is currently in a window in which ESPN and Fox have exclusive bargaining rights, but once the auction opens to all networks, Jon Wilner, who covers the Pac-12 for the Mercury News in San Jose, California, believes the conference could rake in more than $300 million annually, up from $250 million. “None of us got the word until everybody else did,” says Rick George, athletic director at the University of Colorado Boulder, “which is really disappointing.” The latest dominoes to fall in college sports’ continuing saga of conference realignment, the California schools’ departures set off a wave of speculation in the media: Would the Pac-12 collapse? Would it merge with the ACC? Would it expand? Would some of its institutions, including CU, make a run for the Big 12?Īt almost the same time, the Pac-12 has opened negotiations for a new TV deal. When UCLA and USC announced they would be leaving the Pac-12 Conference for the Big 10 Conference, no one was more surprised than Pac-12 administrators. And when your dog blows out his coat in spring and fall, you’ll need to do some extra grooming.Ī de-shedding brush comes in handy during these blow-out phases. That means that light daily grooming is necessary to keep up. GroomingĮven though the Husky mixed with Boxer breed doesn’t sport a long coat, it is a dense one, and there is plenty of ongoing shedding. The older your pup gets, the harder it will be for you to train him effectively. Do not put off important training until later. It will be easiest for you to train a Boxsky if you adopt your dog while still a puppy, and begin training immediately. Those traits tend to be pronounced in the Boxer Husky mix, often overriding the trainability of their boxer parents. They may be stubborn and easily distracted. Huskies often prefer to go off and do their own thing. But Siberian Huskies? That's another story. And yes, Boxers traditionally are pretty easy to train. It’s true-the intelligence, sociability and attention-loving nature of these dogs can help you train them. You would think that a dog that is a crossbreed between two working dog breeds would be easy to train. If you don’t have a yard for your dog to play in, you will need to take your pup on multiple long walks every day.īut with a yard for your dog, your pet can exercise without you, making it easier to keep up with your other commitments. Now you can see why a house with a yard is a much better environment for a Boxsky than an apartment. That can include walking, running, and playing. Your Boxsky should get around 70-80 minutes of exercise every day. They are super active, and they need a ton of daily exercise. That way, you can be sure that a Boxsky will be happy in your home. But let's talk a bit more about what these dogs need in terms of training, exercise, grooming and more. Some less likely issues you should still be on the lookout for include serious eye problems like cataracts, thyroid problems, aortic valve disease, cardiomyopathy, and degenerative myelopathy.Įverything sounds good so far? Great! Maybe this mixed breed will be the perfect canine companion for you. Thankfully, they usually are pretty healthy. Issues with eyes and elbows are also common. Known Health ProblemsĪ Boxer Husky may be prone to hip dysplasia. It is also about staying close to you so that you are safe. It isn’t just about getting your attention (though they want that too!). For that reason, they may be a bit clingy at times. Not only that, but Boxer Huskies are loyal and brave guard dogs. Your Boxsky will probably want to play, and play, and play some more with you every day. Even with that independent streak, they are incredibly social. But don’t let that fool you into thinking that this breed doesn’t need your attention. So both the Boxer and Husky heritage makes the Boxsky prone to wandering. When they are outside, they may feel an urge to pursue squirrels, cats, and just about anything else that moves.Īs if that weren't enough, Siberian Huskies are notoriously stubborn and independent-minded. Remember, they are descended from Boxer hunting dogs. Okay, why should your yard be fenced-in for your Boxsky? Since this crossbreed will need plenty of space for play, a house with a fenced-in yard may be more suitable than a small apartment. That means your dog is going to need a lot of exercise! So while this mixed breeds vary in appearance, they all tend to share the boundless energy of their parent breeds. But what kind of personality do Boxer Huskies have?Īlthough Boxers and Huskies may look different, they are both lively work dogs. Each expresses different Boxer and Husky traits and is uniquely gorgeous. We decided we wanted a Genuine log cabin it wouldn't depreciate like a camper and would last a lifetime, a long term investment. Then again we would have to do all the work, locate, pick up materials, transport a generator, fuel, tools, cut and fit every piece on site, supply food, refreshments, and not to mention everyone says they will help until you call and they have something planned that weekend. Let's not forget fuel, it's expensive to drive to and from your property and all over, picking up materials, last minute runs to the local hardware store, if there's one close by, and hopefully it's also open late and on weekends. Drywall was not an option at $10 sq / ft, Solid Pine trim was too expensive and labor intensive. Since we would have to finish the interior we might as well insulate and wire it, not to mention the ceiling, wall and floor covering material. There were bare studs, braces, brackets, manufacturer's names all over the lumber. They were nice looking from a distance, but very cheaply built, 4" X 4" treated runners, 5/8" plywood floors, 2" X 4" stud walls and rafters, metal braces, 7/16" particle board roof sheathing, three slat fiberglass shingles, exterior Pine log siding. Hardly a Cabin, more like a fancy shed. We didn't want to stare at the unfinished 2"X 4" interior stud walls the interior would have to be finished. We had heard of some Amish built Log Cabins that were delivered. We visited many builders, inspected their cabins and found ourselves very disappointed. We decided on building a small week end Cabin. I drew up the detailed plans and soon realized we just didn't have the time to build it, and decided to purchase a cabin instead. We looked at used pop ups, campers, trailers, and motor homes. They were all designed and built extra light duty for fuel efficient transportation, short ceilings, and required constant maintenance. If stored outside year round, the floors get spongy, roof leaks, they attract rodents, insects, develop a musty odor and deteriorated very quickly. We soon decided that our Weekend Get A Way visits would be more enjoyable with a small place to stay. We enjoy visiting our 46 acre recreational property because we are able to appreciate outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, hiking, observing nature, ATV riding and at the end of the day, watching the stars, at a cozy crackling camp fire, next to our beautiful Trophy Amish Cabin.Īt first we would set up and sleep in a tent, then pack it up to leave, it was a hassle.
